Popularized by Donkey Kong, the first game of its kind released in 1981, platform games are based on player skill and usually provide a simple goal: moving a character by jumping from platform to platform, collecting various items, avoiding traps and enemies then reaching the level exit.

This prolific category includes some of the biggest successes in video gaming history, such as Super Mario, Sonic, Rayman or Crash Bandicoot.
