Grand Theft Auto: Vice City is an open-world action-adventure game originally released in 2002 on PlayStation 2, followed by a PC version in 2003. This time, the action takes place in Vice City in 1986, a fictional city heavily inspired by Miami, with its beaches, palm trees, sports cars, and unmistakable 1980s atmosphere. You play as Tommy Vercetti, a former Mafia member recently released from prison and sent to the city to rebuild the Forelli family’s criminal business.
The story progresses through a series of missions that take you across the city on foot, by car, motorcycle, boat, and even helicopter. Shootouts, chases, assassinations, robberies, street races, vehicle theft, and gang conflicts constantly change the pace, with increasingly ambitious objectives as Tommy builds his influence across Vice City’s criminal underworld.
To survive, you can rely on a wide range of weapons. Pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, grenades, rocket launchers, as well as baseball bats, machetes, katanas, and even chainsaws give you plenty of ways to deal with enemies. Gunfights are played from a third-person perspective, while crimes committed around the city increase your wanted level and bring progressively stronger police forces after you.
Outside the main missions, Vice City is completely open to explore. You can steal almost any vehicle, search for hidden weapons and items, buy properties, or take part in a variety of side activities, including taxi, ambulance, firefighter, and racing missions.
