Miniclip is one of those names that instantly brings back an entire era of browser gaming. Founded in 2001, the website became one of the major destinations for free online games throughout the 2000s, at a time when it only took a few seconds to launch a game from almost any computer. At home, of course, but also at school, at university, or at work during a break that sometimes lasted a little longer than planned.

One of Miniclip’s greatest strengths was its ability to appeal to almost everyone. Some games were immediate, almost hyper-casual before the term even existed: a rule understood in seconds, a quick round, then the urge to play again. Bubble Trouble, released in 2002, HangARoo, and Bloxorz, which became a major hit in 2007, are among those games people still remember years later.

But reducing Miniclip to simple little games would mean forgetting a large part of its identity. The site also featured far more ambitious productions, with polished graphics and genuinely exciting action. The Commando series, launched in 2006, delivered explosive gunfights inspired by classic arcade games, while titles such as Gas & Sand showed that a 3D racing game could also run directly in a web browser.

From 2010 onward, Miniclip gradually shifted its focus toward mobile gaming, until finally closing the chapter on its precious web game catalog in 2022. An era came to an end, but the memories did not.
